A Mitchelton man admitted that if officials hadn’t called him, he would have no idea he won $1 million in Wednesday Gold Lotto, declaring he usually throws his lottery tickets in a drawer, never to look at them again.

The Queensland man held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3965, drawn Wednesday 15 April 2020, and takes home a division one prize of $1 million.

This morning, the hardworking man finally answered the phone after we had been desperately trying to reach him to break the exciting news.

“Thank you very much!” he exclaimed.

“Sorry I have been at work, so I haven’t been able to answer your calls.

“God I never even check my tickets. I just throw them in the drawer and think that if I ever did win, one of you guys would let me know. It’s certainly a surprise!

“I have been playing these same numbers for twenty-odd years. They don’t actually mean anything. I just randomly picked them and have been using them ever since.

“I am an easy-going fella, so I will have an easy-going celebration. I am sure I will find something to do.

“I’m going to be heading back to work now though, I can’t slack off.”

The win is a timely reminder for players to register their entries to a player card, which means their prize is secure and they can be united with their prize.

When asked how he planned to enjoy his million-dollar windfall, the Brisbane man said lots of fun ideas were floating through his mind.

“I might take some time off work and go on a trip later in the year,” he explained.

“I do like to collect cars, so I think I might buy a few more of them.

“Honestly it’s a shock, I think I need some time to think about it.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning 12-marked entry at Nextra Brook News Mitchelton, Shop 90, Brookside Shopping Centre, 159 Osborne Road, Mitchelton.

Nextra Brook News Mitchelton owner Stephen Bird said was thrilled for his winner and hoped it brought him much happiness in these uncertain times.

“It is fantastic news in these difficult times,” he said.

“We’ve been sharing the news with all of our customers and they are happy to share in the good news with us!

“We hope it can go a long way to take away some stress he may be feeling during these times.

“We wish him the best with his prize and hope that it can help make some of his dreams come true.”
