A Woy Woy dad believes 2020 has redeemed itself a little after delivering him a $1 million Monday & Wednesday Lotto win days before the New Year begins.

The Central Coast resident held the only division one winning entry in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4038 on Monday 28 December 2020. He takes home a $1 million division one prize.

When we initially tried to break the winning news to the man, he initially dismissed it, saying “you must be kidding, I never win anything”.

However, when he finally checked his ticket, he realised he was suddenly a millionaire.

“It’s just fantastic! You never think you’ll be that lucky,” he laughed.

“You’re always dreaming of winning, but you never think you will be the next one.

“This is the first good thing to happen in a terrible year. We’re so close to the end and finally some good news! 2020 has saved the best for last.

“I was a bit worried earlier as I forgot where I put the ticket. You won’t believe it, but I found it in my shirt pocket. I just threw it in there after getting it from the shop.

“Normally, I only enter the big jackpotting games like Oz Lotto, but when I went into the newsagency, they suggested I try Monday & Wednesday Lotto, so I got a ticket.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t have normally got it.”

The family man revealed he already had some plans for his million-dollar windfall.

“It’s going to help a lot. We have quite a crappy car so we can give away the old one and get a nice car,” he said.

“There other things on the list. My mind is just flying around thinking about it all at the moment, but a new car is definitely the first thing.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his 24-game QuickPick at Deepwater Plaza Newsagency, Shops 14-15, Deepwater Plaza, Railway Street, Woy Woy.

Deepwater Plaza Newsagency owner Kylie Swinford said she was thrilled to see one of her customers land a major win just in time for the New Year.

“Wow! That's fantastic news. Our congratulations to the winner. What an awesome way to end this difficult year,” she said.

“This is our 4th major winner in 18 months. We’re so pleased for our local community.

“We will certainly be celebrating in store this week.”
