2021 showed us there's a Lott more to play for when you have an entry with Australia's official lotteries.

Thanks to you, our customers, we've supported children and their families through multiple hospital foundations, given sick kids the chance to experience an unforgettable Starlight wish, and funded numerous research initiatives.

As we continue to crown hundreds of new millionaires each year, our commitment to the community grows also. By playing our games in 2021, you've helped support the Australian community, and for that, we say thank you!

Health and medical research

University of Queensland

While the University of Queensland’s COVID-19 vaccine didn't progress to the next phase of development, the unique technology it used holds promise for the development of future vaccines for a range of other illnesses.

In fact, the researchers' patented clamp — which boosts a vaccine's ability to stimulate an immune response — has shown promise in trials targeting influenzas, Ebola, and Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome.

We also supported the University of Queensland in research into a peptide from the Funnel Web spider and its impact on treating stroke and heart attacks.

Yep… you read that right! Our native funnel-web spider's venom could make a huge difference to those suffering a stroke or heart attack.

The peptide (Hi1a) from the venom of the Fraser Island (K'gari) funnel-web spider has been found to protect the brain from damage caused by a stroke, improve cardiac recovery after heart attacks, and enhance the performance of donor hearts used for transplantation.

In 2021, we ticked over 1.5 million dollars to the University and its research initiatives.

Mater Foundation

The arrival of a baby should be a time of great joy and celebration for all families, and the Mater Foundation's ground-breaking research is taking another step towards all children having the best possible start to their lives.

One project focuses on the possible link between neonatal sulphate deficiency and the risk of intellectual disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, in preterm babies. The other project is working on reducing stillbirths.

As a whole, our health and research partners were unwavering in their incredible work, even as they adapted to challenging new circumstances. From providing support services to families in hospital, taking steps towards new treatments for childhood cancer, or providing vital medical equipment, it's been a joy to support them in their success.

We look forward to continuing our commitment to research around mothers and babies in 2022.

Children Brain Cancer Centre

Our donation in 2021 will continue to assist the Centre in their visionary work as they research improved treatments and survivorship outcomes.

It's going to take something big to beat childhood brain cancer for good. Not just big support, but also a hefty dose of courage to try something new.

At the Children's Brain Cancer Centre, a team of dedicated researchers is ready to do just that. In a powerful collaboration between the Children's Hospital Foundation and world-leading institutions, the best clinicians, researchers and facilities are creating the perfect storm to change the future for children diagnosed with brain cancer.

The Lott by Golden Casket** has now committed 1.5 million dollars to the centre. We will continue to provide funds so that the researchers can continue to find better treatment options for those children with brain cancer.

Starlight

They say laughter is the best medicine.

Starlight Children's Foundation knows the importance of happiness to kids, even more so for those with a serious illness. It's why they're dedicated to brightening the lives of sick kids and their families.

Happiness is at the core of everything Starlight does.Their much-loved initiatives, including the Starlight Express Room, Starlight Ward program, Livewire in Hospital, and the Starlight Wish granting program, are all designed to bring joy and laughter to kids in hospital.

For kids who may spend months at a time in hospital, Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express rooms transport the children and their families to a fun, joy filled world where they can smile, play, and for a moment forget they are sick.

We are proud to continue our commitment to this important Foundation. We've been supporting Starlight for over 15 years and have committed over five million dollars to this wonderful cause.

Education

Daniel Morcombe Foundation

It was a record-breaking year for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. It continued its work educating Aussie kids and families on personal safety. We furthered our support with a $300,000 donation.

We were thrilled when the Foundation recorded its biggest ever Day for Daniel event again in 2021.
