WIRES - preserving Australian wildlife
WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.) is one of Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisations, having spent more than 35 years rescuing and caring for wildlife.
With over 3,000 volunteers, they operate 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, helping native animals in distress. Their mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.
In late 2020, Australia experienced one of the worst bushfire seasons on record, which damaged much of our unique flora and fauna and effected countless communities. The Lott hosted the Saturday Lotto Bushfire Benefit Draw on 25 January 2020, donating the profits to organisations assisting those most effected in this time.
From developing long-term species recovery plans to expanding wildlife hospitals and implementing free training programs for wildlife rescue groups, WIRES didn’t waste any time putting their donation to good use.
A lot of Australians don’t realise that when they play Australia’s Official Lotteries - they’re contributing to important things, like preserving our native animals for future generations. And that’s a Lott more to play for.
