A self-proclaimed Cranbourne East “battler” who’s been working hard his entire life is looking forward to immediately retiring from work after winning $4.8 million in last night’s Set for Life draw.

The Melburnian held the only division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2434, drawn Tuesday 5 April 2022. He takes home the division one prize of $4.8 million, paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

We called the winner this morning while he was busy at work and utterly oblivious to his Set for Life win.

“Woo-hoo! This is the best phone call I’ve ever received. This is fantastic,” he happily cried.

“I can’t stop shaking. This is so great. I’m incredibly delighted!

“You’re making me cry so much! I’m a blubbering mess. Oh my goodness.

“I’ve really struggled so much these past few years. I’ve been working hard to set myself up for the future.

“I’ve even been salary sacrificing for years trying to set myself up for retirement. I thought I’d never retire.

“But this win means I can retire – immediately!

“I can look after my kids. I can pay for their mortgages. That is so, so important to me.

“I’ve barely travelled, too. I’ve never been overseas or even out of the state. So, I’d love to take my family on holiday soon.

“The world’s my oyster. This changes everything for me.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to work for the rest of the day. I can’t stop shaking, and I’m not sure how I’ll be able to do anything. This is insane, thank you.”

The winning entry was purchased at Hunt Club Lotto, Shop R12 Hunt Club Village, 1S Linsell Boulevard, Cranbourne East.

Hunt Club Lotto owner Rommy Sia said he was celebrating the exciting milestone.

“This is amazing,” he said.

“This is the biggest win we’ve had in this outlet since I took ownership three years ago.

“It’s a big moment for us! We’d been waiting for a major win, and now we’ve had one, and we’re so happy.

“Hopefully, we have some more big wins now. We’d love to be on a division one winning streak!

“We’ve been sharing the news with all our customers this morning, and they’re very excited.

“I’d love to send my congratulations to the winner. We’re so happy for you!”
