A Geelong woman who only buys a lottery ticket for special occasions has today discovered she’s now set for life and will be receiving $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.

The Victorian held the only division one winning entry nationally in Set for Life draw 2379, drawn Wednesday 9 February 2022.

She took home the prize of $4.8 million paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

However, the winning entry was unregistered which means we had no way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news. Instead, we had to wait for the ticketholder to come forward to claim their prize.

This morning, the winning woman finally checked her ticket and realised she was officially set for life.

“That’s fantastic!” she laughed when speaking with our team.

“I checked my ticket this morning and I was blown away. I’ve only bought a handful of lottery tickets in my life, so I never expected this.

“When I checked this ticket, I actually thought I’d won division two. But then I realised I’d crossed all the numbers off and I started trembling.

“I ran straight to my sibling’s house to let them know and they were so excited. I didn’t want to tell anyone else until it was confirmed, so I had to carry on with all my plans. That was the slowest morning of my life!

“It’s so exciting to have won division one. It’s amazing! I haven’t had a chance to scream yet, but as soon as I get off the phone to you, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

“Unfortunately, I still have to cook dinner for my family and do all my other chores today so there won’t be too much celebrating. But I’ve got some nice pear ciders in the fridge so I might have a few of them.

“I might even go away for a big celebratory weekend soon.

“I definitely want to use the prize to help my family and I’d like to do some travelling overseas and around the country.

“It’ll allow me to plan for the future and relax a little. It’s a dream come true!”

The winning entry was purchased at Market Square Lotto, Kisok 3, The Plaza Market Square, Cnr Malop & Moorabool Streets, Geelong.

Market Square Lotto owner Greg Keating said he was over the moon for his local customer.

“I’m so glad to hear this prize has been claimed now!” he declared.

“It’s amazing that it’s gone to a local customer. We’re just so pleased they’ve had a division one win – it’s what we all dream of.

“We can imagine the prize will bring so much joy to the winner. Hopefully we can make more of our customers happy division one winners.

“Wins like this generate so much positivity and they’re so fantastic for the winner, the outlet and the community. We’re ecstatic!”
